Partnership with Sustainable Molokai to deliver PPE

Last month in June 2020, EF Hawaii partnered with PōMahina Designs to deliver 40 custom-made PōMahina reusable masks -- along with an additional 20 reusable masks, 600 disposable masks, and 200 gloves to Sustainable Molokai.

The donated PPE will provide needed safety equipment for Sustainable Molokai’s 9 employees and 15 volunteers, as well as others the team collaborates with including other nonprofits and farmers to distribute food directly to Molokai residents. The foodbank distribution goes to approximately 1,000 Molokai families. Some are households of one and some are large ohana and estimate the total number of individuals being served ~2,700.

Sustainable Molokai is an on island nonprofit who voiced the need for PPE. They work and collaborate with other nonprofits and farmers and would help distribute. The foodbank distribution goes to approximately 1,000 Molokai families. Some are households of one and some are large ohana -- so the estimate of individuals being served is 2,700. Sustainable Molokai has 9 employees and 15 volunteers and works with other organizations to distribute food too. They estimate 35-59 ppl who are assisting with food delivery. https://www.sustainablemolokai.org/

Prior to this donation, volunteers and food servers were going out in the community delivering groceries and meals to kupuna, the underserved, and others that are homebound – without any PPE equipment such as masks.

Through this effort the partnership was able to:

  • Provide PPE to these food servers to keep them safe and in compliance with government directives

  • Support a start-up by having PōMahina engage in their community in meaningful way.

  • Share our story – Mana Up released a newsletter describing community efforts by their cohort companies including PōMahina

This is EFH’s measure of success – our ROI (Return on Inspiration), inspiring and being inspired to support entrepreneurs and our community.  In this time of great need, all acts of kindness are meaningful.
